FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - JOHN-PAUL JONES GROUP - EP VOLUME #2 - TRIBUTE TO RORY GALLAGHER



We are pleased to announce that we are releasing our first EP of 2018 on May 1st.  The EP is a tribute to great Irish Blues Rocker Rory Gallagher.  Rory was and is a big influence on Jp Jones and also has a lot to do with the John-Paul Jones Group's dedication to preserving the blues-rock heritage.



"I remember the first time I heard Rory play,  the song was Messing with the Kid from some televised TV special rerun on public television.  His playing style was just amazing.   I already knew the song, but to hear Rory play it with such raw power, was amazing, I couldn't get enough" - Jp Jones.   

Having followed Rory's Career until he died in 1995 Jp also is a big fan of collecting anything Rory has on video.   Especially the documentary Ghost Blues.

"With this EP, I wanted to record my version of Rory's songs, this EP is by no means a way for me to try and copy note for note what Rory created.  Because that's impossible.  Rory was one of a kind and one of the greatest musicians from the class of 65-69.  I just love the songs he wrote and wanted to pay tribute to him."


The EP features long-time John-Paul Jones Group bassist Sally Henry and Housecoat Drummer Don Brown.  The songs were recorded at CopperTop Studio Hut in Ottumwa, Iowa.  If you would like to pre-order the CD please feel free to PRE-ORDER CD HERE

Jp & Jesse Doing Their Thang Every year the John-Paul Jones Group does a "soft opening"  many folks don't realize that by November 1st of each year the band is on vacation until March 1st of the following year.    This allows the band much needed time to relax, and to avoid the Iowa winters.  March 1st to May 15th the band starts back in pre-production for the summer concert series. The John-Paul Jones Group is the primary project of its leader, John-Paul "Jp" Jones and it’s his vision and under his direction the band has progressed in its now 20 years of existence. VISIT THEM ON THE WEB On May 18th, 2019 was the Artist's first show of the year, and it was at a new venue for the John-Paul Jones Group.  The venue is the HFI Creativity Lab located at 408 W. Lowe in Fairfield, Iowa. A unique venue with an oval ceiling full dance floor commercial restrooms.  But no alcohol service. This is a ballroom to be the best way to describe it

COPPERTOP STUDIO HUT JOURNAL ENTRY 04-04-2018 CLIENT:  John-Paul Jones Group TIME: 6:30PM to 8:10PM MUSICIANS:    Guitar/Vocals  Jp Jones   Drums - Steven Jones Bass - Sally Ward The John-Paul Jones Group was in the studio today recording an old Sonny Boy Williamson classic tune.  We will keep the actual song under wraps. The band recorded with a minimal setup. The goal is to mimic a direct to recording disc recording.  Sonny Boy Williamson had a unique style of singing.  Jp worked hard at melding his style with this style of blues. But one of the biggest changes, was Jp traded (for this session) his Ibanez Universe 7 String for an Ibanez 6 String Tallman Guitar. Who knew the 7-String Heavy Bluesman could have a softer side. Jp stated, " I was trying to put a LIMITATION" on myself. Blues-Bikes-Cars Concert

On July 20th, 2019, despite a statewide heat advisory and power fluctuation problems the John-Paul Jones Group performed at the 1st Annual Blues-Bikes-Cars Concert in Ottumwa, Iowa.  Their brand of Heavy Blues must of  brought in the Heavy Weather, but the band played right to the eve of the storm. The crew worked hard during the storm to pull down the gear and get it out of the storm we were all soaking wet and cold and thanks to a couple good Samaritans we were able to get most of the gear protected. The cars were great as well here are few pictures of them. The Vehicle Show was wonderful with 45 entries.  1st -3rd place was given for cars and trucks.
