Jp & Jesse Doing Their Thang
Every year the John-Paul Jones Group does a "soft opening"  many folks don't realize that by November 1st of each year the band is on vacation until March 1st of the following year.
This allows the band much needed time to relax, and to avoid the Iowa winters.  March 1st to May 15th the band starts back in pre-production for the summer concert series.

The John-Paul Jones Group is the primary project of its leader, John-Paul "Jp" Jones and it’s his vision and under his direction the band has progressed in its now 20 years of existence.
On May 18th, 2019 was the Artist's first show of the year, and it was at a new venue for the John-Paul Jones Group.  The venue is the HFI Creativity Lab located at 408 W. Lowe in Fairfield, Iowa. A unique venue with an oval ceiling full dance floor commercial restrooms.  But no alcohol service. This is a ballroom to be the best way to describe it. Perfect for as Jp said they called them in the old days..."Hall Party". The owner Dr. Eric Schaffer is a musician himself. This is a unique facility and very conducive to live recording.

Crew Members Setting Up The Show While John-Paul "Jp" Directs

This year the John-Paul Jones Group has expanded to include some new members.

Scott Carroll, Blazze Hoyt, Aaron Klampe are now joining Tyler Hernandez who is returning for another season with production duties.

These guys are top notch and makes for a full crew contingent to handle, sound, lights, videography, and audio recording.

Here are a few reviews from the show posted on the artist's facebook page.

Fans at the show enjoyed the best modern blues to hit Fairfield.

The support by the fans was refreshing as Heather Dawn of H&J Entertainment was working hard to keep up with the merchandise sales.

The band played killer renditions of old blues songs from Muddy Waters, and "heavy blues" numbers like Rory Gallagher Cradle Rock.

The crowd was up for most every song and had a great time tapping their feet and dancing with reckless abandon as one new fan stated.

The show was audio and video recorded for a "Live@The Lab" CD which will be available later in the year.   The band travels with a full 32 Track Audio & Multi-Camera Recording system.

Remember the John-Paul Jones shows consist of either (1) 90 minute set or (2) 75 minute sets.

So just like the movie theater you don't want to be late or you will miss the show.

As always we want everyone to love the John-Paul Jones Group. Support them at any chance you get. This is Southeastern Iowa's native heavy blues band, and they will play songs that will leave an impact with you, and a performance that will rock your socks off.

HFI Lab Concert Attendee Comments
Started in 1999 by John-Paul Jones the band has had many wonderful members in it over the past 20 years, but the current line-up and crew are very much a big part of the current undertakings.

If you are a fan of Robin Trower, Rory Gallagher, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Gary Moore, Peter Frampton, and other great 60's 70's guitar icons you will absolutely enjoy a John-Paul Jones Group performance.

Jp plays guitar like a man on fire and the rhythm section of Jesse & Steven were as solid as a rock. The band frequently went into impromptu jams and kept the groove going for the many dancers.

The band has excellent musicians and a great song selection that kept the crowd dancing. Check out the comments.

When you speak with Jp about music, you can see that its a passion that he truly believes the tradition of live music is important for all generations to experience.

Thus is undying dedication to performing in venues that allow for toddlers and young teens to experience live music performance.

  1. Was at this show and had a great time! Heavy Blues is a great description of band's sound. When we were watching this power trio, I got the vibe of Cream much of the time with the huge sound they got. Also enjoyed the slower bluesier numbers that were sprinkled in throughout the set as well. Looking forward to seeing them again! Dave
